Unfortunately, the thrills and rewards of general aviation are often experienced only by a small number of individuals. Nevertheless, general aviation still continues to gain massive popularity across not only the United States, but the entire world. As members of the Rensselaer Aeronautical Federation, it is our aim to promote interest in and spread awareness of the practicality of general aviation throughout the entire Rensselaer community. We also strive to instill an awareness of aviation safety within the Rensselaer community by encouraging safe and economical flying and by helping to increase the flight proficiency of RPI's pilot population. We hope that any member of the community that has even the most remote interest in flying will consider taking advantage of the unique experiences and opportunities that our club has to offer.

Experience General Aviation...

  • General Aviation (GA) is often faster, better, cheaper, and more secure than flying through centralized airline hubs with strangers, and that's why each year 166 million people choose to fly GA.
  • GA is one of the safest forms of transportation in the world, with the highest standards for aircraft and pilots.
  • Throughout history, Americans have played a leading role in GA in the world. Individual U.S. citizens have used their freedom to fly as a way to enrich the lives of people worldwide.
  • Pilots use small airplanes the same way most people use their cars. If you know how America's roads and highways work, then you'll easily understand air transportation.
  • GA pilots are your friends and neighbors who use their own or rented airplanes to visit our nation's tourist spots, to fly colleagues to a business meeting, or just to enjoy the freedom of flying.
  • From America's largest Fortune 500 companies to individual entrepreneurs, businesses nationwide are using GA to reach new markets, support business partnerships, and increase employee productivity.
  • General Aviation (GA) is a catalyst for economic growth. It is an integral part of the U.S. economy, generates millions of jobs, and represents 1 percent of the GDP.
  • The vast majority of airline pilots are trained by private flight schools in the United States. And 166 million passengers a year travel via GA, making it America's largest "airline."
  • From dramatic live images on the evening news to serene views of a golf tournament to Hollywood's latest blockbuster film, GA provides the bird's-eye view that you can get only by flying.
  • It's not just small business jets that are getting faster, better, and cheaper. America's small piston-powered propeller-driven airplanes also are adopting new technologies to make flying faster, safer, and more affordable.
