RPI Ground School Program

At least once a year, possibly once a semester depending on expected enrollment, the Rensselaer Aeronautical Federation offers all club members the opportunity to attend an official Part 141 Private Pilot Ground School course, taught by a certified flight instructor from Richmor Aviation. The ground school will prepare you for the FAA written exam, which will bring you one step closer to becoming a real pilot!

The class is typically offered once a week, usually Sunday nights, for about 12 weeks during the semester. The cost of the course varies from year to year, but it is usually in the $300 to $400 range (it was $370 last year). This fee covers the cost of the classroom instruction as well as your personal flight kit, which includes books, study guides, regulations manual, aircraft manual, manual flight computer, and a flight bag. The fee can be paid by cash, check, or charged to your student account.

The cost of such a course is typically higher, but because we are a Union subsidized club, we are able to offer you discounted rates. Also, the more students that enroll in the course, the lower the per student cost, so be sure to encourage your friends to sign up as well! Many students also choose to enroll in the RPI sponsored ground school course because it is more convenient to take classes at the library rather than having to travel to the airport. We highly encourage anyone interested in becoming a pilot to take advantage of this great deal.

If you have any questions, or if you would be interested in enrolling in our next ground school session, please contact us at raf@union.rpi.edu.
